3 Steps to Becoming Your Own Biggest Cheerleader for Radical Self-Love

After years of self-shaming, I’ve learned to become my own #1 fan.

In this world, we’re allowed to believe anything we want. We can believe we’re the worst (which shame will try to rope us into). Or we can believe we’re the best.

So, why not (humbly) pick the latter. After all, we are all the best- at being ourselves!

3 Steps to Becoming Your Own Biggest Cheerleader

Overcoming shame and stepping into self-love for me has essentially been a three-step process:

#1: Own who you are

Only you can offer this world the exact… je ne sais quoi… that you bring to the table. So, discover who you are outside of societal norms and expectations.

And 👏🏼 Own👏🏼 It 👏🏼 Baby 👏🏼 !!

For me, this meant shaking out of the invisible shackles of my concept of perfection and stepping into my:

  • Deeply sensitive
  • Chaotically free
  • Intensely loving
  • Beautifully wild

and, dare I say, down right fabulous… self.

#2: Back yourself up

Shalom, radical acceptance!

Our job is not to make the world around us comfortable, but to be comfortable in the world. So, I have daily pep-talks with myself. Literally cheering myself on:

“Wow, you really just did that super hard thing. Daaamn, mami… Look at you go!”

“Don’t listen to them, babe. They don’t know you like I do, and you’re doing ah-may-zing!”

#3: Become your own bestie

Once you’ve gained your own trust, you can truly become your own best friend. I check in with myself regularly, as any good friend would. And with my own companionship, I know I always have someone to:

  • Be myself with. No expectations. Just pure acceptance.
  • Listen attentively and offer loving support. Or challenge rude thoughts.
  • Do fun things with, be it going to the movies, or dinner, or dancing

We all deserve at least one “ride or die” in our corner. And when we take the time, we’ll see that we’ve each had one in ourselves all along.
